San Francisco Recreation and
San Francisco Recreation and Park Department (SFRPD) is in the process of renovating the highly popular, historic Willie “Woo Woo” Wong Playground located in the heart of Chinatown. InterEthnica developed a Public Participation Plan complete with a strategy designed to engage playground users of all ages, neighbors, community groups and leaders, local businesses, and the SFRPD and their maintenance staff. InterEthnica encouraged participation and elicited input from the diverse community members, focusing specifically on Chinese speakers to ensure balanced cultural perspectives were heard and included.
InterEthnica successfully engaged community members to ensure their input is incorporated into the new playground design by conducting 200 intercept interviews, meeting with over 160 people, and far surpassing the client’s attendance goals by filling workshops to standing room only.
