CASE STUDY

PG&E: Resilient Together
Community Engagement and Facilitation

The California Public Utilities Commission requires utilities to conduct and file Climate Adaptation Vulnerability Assessments every four years to analyze the climate-driven impacts and risks on utility operations, assets and services over the next few decades. PG&E looked to InterEthnica to lead and design the engagement process in developing its first Climate Adaptation Vulnerability Assessment. Over a one-year period, InterEthnica recruited, convened, and facilitated the Resilient Together Advisory Groups, an equity advisory council comprised of 50 community-based organizations across PG&E’s statewide service areas. InterEthnica developed and oversaw a grant program for community organizations to fund engagement that focused on the climate impacts on the most vulnerable populations. InterEthnica trained, mentored, and supported community organizations in their outreach, including developing and sharing a toolkit of interactive engagement tools in English, Spanish, Chinese, Filipino, Tongan, Samoan, and Vietnamese. InterEthnica developed and presented a comprehensive engagement report and moderated a panel discussion with equity advisory council members to share key learnings at the California Adaptation Forum.
