CASE STUDY
California State Ombudsman Survey

The State of California and the California Department of Aging sought to conduct a statewide research study on long-term care policy and services in California. Recognizing the difficulty of reaching limited English proficient older adults, the state looked to InterEthnica to develop an inclusive research strategy. InterEthnica developed a sampling plan based on language prevalence in each geographic region and mapped out highly frequented locations in each subregion by community. Despite being met with initial skepticism, our bilingual researchers provided a cultural and linguistic bridge, conducting 650 intercept surveys in 7 languages (English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Korean, and Russian) to ensure that diverse voices across the state continue to shape the future of critical services.
