InterEthnica led the community engagement for the award-winning Civic Center Public Realm Plan, a multi-agency effort to create a unified vision for long-term improvements to the Civic Center’s public spaces. This vision was developed through an extensive community-based process that brought together cultural institutions, community groups, thousands of city residents and workers, and governmental stakeholders. It included focus groups with adults, seniors, and youth in English, Cantonese, Spanish, and Vietnamese; over 2,5000 intercept surveys with community members; close collaboration with 60 community-based organizations and leaders; development of a working group comprised of 10 key community stakeholders; and 3 public workshops that included performances by local cultural artists. The community-centered participatory process has led to the design of a public space that prioritized inclusion and reflects the cultural, social, and economic diversity of the neighborhoods it serves.

“Thank you so much for the continued work and collaboration. Between all the opportunities you have provided our teens, our program overall, and everything else, our Clubhouse has been very blessed to have this partnership.”
